Enrichment Outreach Program
The Official Enrichment Workshop of the Psittacine Welfare Institute
Enrichment is the foundation of best practice husbandry for any animal’s mental health, but enrichment can become an enormous cost when your bird destroys their items on a daily basis. We understand that rescued animals are the most vulnerable to frustration, stress, and boredom – and that while rescue organizations continue to strive to provide the best possible welfare to these animals, costs can add up really quickly! That’s where we come in.
In an effort to ensure that no parrot is without a productive (or destructive) outlet, we started the Enrichment Outreach Program (EOP) to fundraise and donate hand-made enrichment items to local parrot rescues.
How Does It Work?
We start by raising funds through various means, primarily direct donations from supporters like you. We then use the money to purchase an enormous amount of enrichment raw materials: (i.e. wooden blocks, leather, chain, etc.). Once collected, we send the raw materials to our partner facilities on or around May 31st – World Parrot Day. From there, our partner facilities set up interactive booths for guests to learn about parrots and help build the enrichment as a workshop. At the end of the day, we collect all of the enrichment, and take it directly to the local parrot rescues in the area.
