Habitat Awards

Parrot Habitat Awards

The Parrot Habitat Awards were created to inspire positive environmental change in the companion parrot industry. Much of what is considered industry-standard in aviculture does not meet our organization’s optimum guidelines for space, complexity, and interactivity. We hope to shine the light on some of the habitats that are exemplary, and encourage the zoological community to join us in celebrating their work. If you know of an institute or household with an amazing aviary, please nominate them today!

Contest Details

One submission per household for the Companion Category. One submission per department for the Collection Category.

The prize for winning 1st place in either category is an official eco-friendly trophy from the Psittacine Welfare Institute, a promotional post on our social media platforms and website, as well as a cash prize of $200 to the winning household in the companion category. The top three in each category will receive recognition from the Psittacine Welfare Institute, as well as a certificate for being a Parrot Habitat Award Finalist.

The contest will open annually on August 1st, and will close annually August 31st; allowing plenty of time for organizations and households to make improvements to their psittacine habitats before submission. Finalists will be announced in early September, and winners will be presented with their award and winnings contingent upon confirmation that they meet the requirements of their category.

Is the parrot in question under the sole care of you or your family in your home? The Companion Category.

Is the parrot(s) in question under the care or ownership of a zoo, organization, business, or other professional venture? The Collection Category.

The finalists are determined after review from the Psittacine Welfare Institute’s organized body. Each submission will be considered one at a time, with each addition contending for a top three spot. Winners will be determined after contact is made with finalists, and further photographs or information is obtained.
